I spent a year working on a senior paper on radical doubt. The funny thing about it is there is no bottom to it. You think you live in a concrete building with a solid slab foundation so throwing out the curtains (religion) seems like a fun thing to do. But after some real investigating you realize that not only are your walls as thin as the curtains but the foundation is akin to shifting beach sands. If you can get past that you might blink and realize that there never was a foundation at all. Not everyone can handle this. Even "freethinkers" cling like old church ladies to their unproven beliefs. Epistemology is just as much about faith as any religion. In the end we all respond like good Utilitarian Pragmatists. "Does it work for you? Use it."
I am lying a bit here. I have a belief structure. But if I were to reject it, then the Utilitarian/Pragmatist option would be one direction to go.
